Pilot #10

Creative Film Skills

#creativefilmskills

Work with previous pilot studies has shown the need to build bridges between expertise in film production and urban development. Therefore, all of Pilot #10 is devoted to this. Stakeholders from both sectors were invited to four round-table discussions, which formed the basis for four articles. In addition, a public talk was held at the Gothenburg Film Festival.

How can creative know-how from the film world contribute to the process of urban development? Which points of contact are important to accentuate? The purpose of the pilot study is to highlight the rich expertise of the film industry and study how this can contribute to architecture and urban development.

Location

  • Auction House Kulturarena, Gothenburg

Along with White Arkitekter, four relevant themes were identified—documentaries, the city as stage, VR and temporary architecture. External stakeholders from each industry were invited, each with their own perspective and input.
Each three-hour conversation was recorded, transcribed and edited into articles. The articles are aimed at creators as well as urban planners, builders and architects.

Audience

The pilot study was aimed at creators in film, stakeholders in the film industry, stakeholders in construction and real estate, architects and urban planners. Public conversations took place during the Gothenburg Film Festival, which is the most important industry arena for film in Sweden.

The round table discussions and the public meeting have shown that there is great interest in closer collaboration from both sides. The meetings led to a noticeably broader understanding and to several concrete invitations among the participants. The pilot study also shows that the structures and payment models in the industries look very different, which can make sustainable collaboration difficult. The manner of implementation is also an example of how we need to work to address the matching problem on which the Smart Kreativ Stad project is based.
